This event is a one-mile (roughly) swim across Lake Gaston. The crossing occurs in a protected area adjacent to the Eaton Ferry Bridge.

Registration will begin at 8:00 am at the Morningstar Marina located at 1847 Eaton Ferry Road in Littleton. The swim starts at 9 am.

The entry fee is $20 ($25 on race day). For the first time, this event will be using chip timing.

Awards will be presented to the first male and to the first female finishers and the most outrageous entry.

Last year over 170 runners and walkers registered for this event. Omar Smith covered the 5K cross-country course in 17:12, breaking the course mark for this event by 10 seconds. Ivonne Chiro-Klevans (22:12) won the women’s title. Heather Wallace (21:06) holds the women’s course record.

The one-mile run begins at 8:30 a.m. The 5K starts at 9:00 a.m.

The entry fees for the 5K are $20, if entry fee is received or postmarked NLT August 21 and $25 thereafter, up to and including race day. The entry fees for the one-mile run are $15 and $20, respectively. The entry fee includes a t-shirt.

In the mile, awards will be given to the first three boys and girls in each of the following age divisions: 8-under, 9-10, 11-12, and 13-14.

In the 5K, the first three males overall and the first three females overall will receive gift certificates to The Athlete’s Foot. Awards will also be presented to the first three finishers in each of the following age divisions: (both sexes) 14 - under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-64, 65-over.

There will also be a special packet pickup and late registration at Athlete’s Foot in Cameron Village in Raleigh from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, August 27.

Both the mile and the 5K will again be timed with the ChampionChip.

Last year 125 runners and walkers register for this event in its second year. Paul Yates won the race in 21:36. Jenny Fells ran 23:10 to win the women’s title. The course records are held by Dean Taccus (16:37) and Mary Gill (18:54).

Both races start and finish at the parking lot at the corner of Little John and Gilliam Streets in downtown Oxford. Click here for a copy of the course map.

The featured 5K begins at 8:30 a.m. followed by the start of the mile at 9:30 a.m. The 5K will be timed with the ChampionChip. The mile will not be officially timed, but there will be a digital clock at the finish line so runners can see their finishing times.

Last year, over 300 runners and walkers signed up for the event. Jarett Prady led the field over the certified North Raleigh course in 18:12. Elaine Lawrie was the women’s champion finishing 4th overall in a new women’s course record of 19:55. Erastus Kiama ste the men’s course record in 2007 with a 17:08 clocking.

The event begins and ends in the parking lot behind Trinity Baptist Church at 4815 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27609. Click here for a course map.

The morning begins with the 5K beginning at 9:00 a.m. The mile starts at 9:10 am, and the 100-yard Kid’s Dash begins at 10:00 a.m. ChampionChip technology will be used to time the 5K. No official times will be taken in the other two races.

There also will be a Senior Stroll which begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 9:45 a.m This is a walking event on the Recreation Outreach Center's indoor track. There is no set distance. Participants can register the day of the race for $10, which includes a t-shirt.

The entry fee for the 5K is $20 ($25 after September 1st. The fees for the mile and Kid’s Dash are $10 and $5, respectively, with no late fees. All of those registered for the 5K and mile will receive a t-shirt as part of their entry fees. Those entered in the Kid’s Dash can purchase a t-shirt for an additional $5.

In the 5K, awards will be presented to the first three males overall, to the first three females overall, to the first three master finishers of each sex, and to the first three finishers in each of the following age groups: 15-under, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, and 60-over.

In September of 2008 over 400 runners turned out for this race (them known as the Magnificent Mile) in downtown Raleigh. The race starts and finishes in the 400 block of Hillsborough Street. The runners will start there, run down and circle the Capital and return – a very flat course. Click here for a copy of the course map.

Bobby Mack won the men’s mile in 4:13 tying the existing state mark for Open Men. Kasia Sujowski won the women’s mile in 5:15. In addition to Mack’s record, seven NC age group mile records were either set or tied.

The Magnificent Mile is also the first event in the eight-race Second Empire Grand Prix Series. Other races in the series include The Anna’s Angels 10-Mile Run in RTP on September 27, the Triangle Run/Walk for Autism( formerly the Autism Ribbon Run) in Raleigh on October 10, the 5K Run for Healthier Babies in RTP on October 25, the Free to Breathe 5K in Raleigh on November 7, the Inside-Out Sports Turkey Trot 8K in Cary (Thanksgiving Day), the Jingle Bell Run in Raleigh on December 5, and the St. Michael School Jolly Elf Trail Run in Cary on December 12. One of the Triad's most popular races, this event drew a crowd of over 380 entries in 2008. Tommy Boles (16:42) and Jennifer Vandiver (19:32) were the overall winners. Scott Dvorak (14:29) and Vicki Mitchell (16:40) hold the course records.

Both courses start and finish at the Millis Regional Health Education Center across the street from the High Point Regional Hospital in downtown High Point. For a copy of the course map, click here.

Last year 81 kids participated in this event which takes place at the Greenville Aquatics and Fitness Center at 921 Staton Road, Greenville, NC 27858.

There are three divisions. Kids ages 6-8 will swim 25 yards, bike 2 miles and finish with a ½-mile run. For those ages 9-11, the distances are 75 yards, 2 miles, and 1 mile, respectively. Children ages 12-14 will swim 125 yards, bike 2 miles, and run 2 miles.

The swim is in a pool, the bike route is on city streets, and the run is on a ½ mile loop around the GAFC.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers in each division as well as to the top three relay teams in each division. Additionally, all finishers will receive a prize.

The entry fees are $30 for an individual entry and $70 for a team. After August 24th, the fees are $40 and $90, respectively. All registered participants will receive a t-shirt. There is a 200 person registration cap, and there is no race day registration.

After the event, participants and their families are welcome to use the pool and other GAFC facilities for the day. There will be free food and drinks and door prizes for the kids.

Last year over 250 runners and walkers came out for the Women’s Distance Festival in downtown Raleigh. Mandy Hopper led the field through the downtown course in a course-record 19:44. Rima Bogardus set a new masters course record by finishing third overall in 23:04

Now in its seventh year, the high successful Gail Parkins Memorial Ovarian Awarenes Walk has added a 5K run. The run will begin at 9:30 and the 2-mile walk will follow at 11 am. Both events start and finish at Sanderson High School.

September 27 (Sunday) Research Triangle Park - Anna's Angels 10 Miler and 5K - 8 a.m. – 10 Miles, 5,000 meters - Contact: Michelle Pfeiffer at michellepfeiffer@nc.rr.com.

Last year, over 600 runners and walkers registered for the 3rd Annual Anna’s Angels 10-miler and 5K run. Tyler Johnson was the overall winner in the 10 miler. Kimberlie Fowler broke her own course record when she won the women’s crown in 1:04:35. Devin Swann (50:59) owns the men’s course record.

In the 5K both course records fell. Omar Smith ran 16:50 to win while Brianna Gaal won the women’s title in 19:54.

Both races begin at 8 am, and both races will be timed with the ChampionChip

Now in its 32nd year, this event is Johnson County’s oldest continuous running road race. Last October over 100 runners and walkers registered for the 5K with Stephen Sykes (16:37) and Deanne Fitzgerald (19:48) taking the overall titles.

The start/finish area is located at 201 North Webb Street in Selma. This flat, certified course is conducive to fast times. The first half of the race is through a residential area with the second half going out of town then back to the finish. To download a course map, click here,

The 5K and the Family Fun Walk both begin at 8 a.m. The Family Fun Walk is untimed, but the 5K will be timed using the ChampionChip system.

The entry fee for the 5K is $15 ($20 after September 30 up to and including race day). The fee for the Family Fun Walk is $10 ($15 after September 30 up to and including race day). The entry fee includes a t-shirt. Entries in the 5K also receive a “goody bag.”

In the 5K run awards will be present to the top two males overall, to the top two females overall and to the top two finishers in each of the following age groups (both sexes):12-under, 13-19,20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60-over. All the finishers in the 5K Walk will receive medals.

Last year 847 runners finished this 5K with Victor Ornelas leading the way in 15:39. Georgia Davis won the women’s title in 17:27.

Now in its fifth year, this event combines a 5K run for people with a 1-mile walk for people with their dogs.

Last year 112 people registered for the 5K run. Dwayne Reese won the race in 18:47. Tara Barrentine won the women’s competition setting a new women’s course record in the process of 21:54. Jarret Prady holds the men’s course record of 17:45 set in 2006.

The start/finish area for the race is the Birthplace for Wake Forest College (405 North Main Street). The 5K race begins at 10:00 a.m. The starting time for the 1-mile dog walk is 10:15 am.

In its first year in 2008, this event had 80 entries in the 5K. Aaron Carr won the race in 17:42. Jill Metzer was the women’s champion in 19:54.

The race is put on by the good folks at the Mariah Parham Healthcare Foundation. The race starts and finishes at the Mariah Parham Medical Center which is located at 511 Ruin Creek Road.

The 5K starts at 9 am; the mile begins at 9:45 am. The start/finish area is near the Oncology & Rehabilitation Center on the right side of the Medical Center.

The entry fee is $25 for the 5K and $15 ($10 if one does not want a shirt) for the mile. On race day, the 5K fee increases by $5. The mile fee stays the same. T-shirts will be given to all pre-registered 5K entrants and to mile entrants who paid for them. On race day entrants will get t-shirts on a “first-come, first-served” basis. The 5K will be timed with the ChampionChip. The mile will not be officially timed, but finishers will be able to see their times on a digital clock at the finish line.

In the 5K, awards designed especially for the Foundation 5K will be given to the first three males and the first three females overall. Medals will be presented to the top three finishers in each of the following age divisions: (both sexes) 15-under, 16-29, 30-39, 40-49 and 50-over. Each finisher in the fun run will receive a medal.

Any company that enters a team of 5 or more for the 5K will receive a special certificate. The top runner from each participating team will also receive a certificate. Teams must be pre-registered.

In its second year, this race quickly reached its limit of 400 runners in 2008.

Jim Wahl was the overall winner completing the out-and-back course in a course-record 54:25. Cathy Wides set a new state age group record for women 55-59 by winning the women’s competition in 1:12:35. Brennam Liming holds the women’s course mark of 1:02:50.

The race will be held in Bond Park in Cary located at 801 High House Road in Cary. The 5k is the first race of the afternoon beginning at 2 pm; the mile starts at 2:30 pm.

This race, named in memory of Sue Hoying, will start and finish at St. Raphael Catholic School located at 5801 Falls of Neuse Road in North Raleigh. Sue taught in the Diocese of Raleigh for 23 years before her death in 2007, and an endowment has been established in her memory.

Last year, the first year the race was held, over 200 participants turned out for the race. Louis Pelsang (19:05) took top honors in the race. Laura Frey (20:28) was the winer of the women’s competition.

Once again the race will be held on Centennial Campus starting an finishing at the corner on Campus Shore Drive and Main Campus Drive. The street address is 2400 Campus Shore Drive, Raleigh, NC 27606.

The One-Mile will begin at 9:00 a.m. The Free to Breathe 5K will start at 9:30 a.m. WALKERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO PARTICIPATE IN ALL RACES.

Once again the race will offer each entrant in the 5K a choice of being a competitive or recreational entrant. Here is the difference:

Recreational Runners/Walkers: Those who choose this classification don't care about being eligible for any awards, are not running on a corporate team, and don’t care about getting an official finishing time. This event is being held to honor Christopher Cash, who died in service to his country in Iraq. Proceeds from the race will go into a scholarship fund in his honor.

In its fourth year in 2008 this race drew a record field of 504 entries, making it Greenville’s largest race. Nicholas Kurgat won the featured 10 Miler in a course-record 51:20. Divinia Jepkogei won the women’s title in 59:51 – a new course record for the women.

Jason Pfruender won the 5K in 17: 42. Abby Fuquay won the women’s competition in 21:28. Blake Roberson holds the course record in the 5K of 16:23. Christine Reasoner (19:29) holds the women’s course mark in the 5K.

Both races begin at 1 p.m. and the certified courses are described as “flat and fast.” Both races start and finish at the Town Commons in Greenville and are timed using the ChampionChip. This race was held to honor Sadiki Young, who was killed as a passenger in a drunk driving accident on January 14, 2007. Sadiki was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and a senior at Wakefield High School. The race starts and finishes by the Church on 120 East Edenton Street in downtown Raleigh.

Over 400 runners and walkers turned out for the event. Brian Dotson took top honors in the 5K race in 17:37. Laura Frey ran 20:06 to win the women’s competition. The course records are held by Brian St. Onge (16:23) and Kasia Sujkowski (18:38).

Because of the Hillsborough Street construction, a slightly different course will be run this year.

Last year the 29th edition of this race attracted over 400 runners and walkers. Robert Stanfield took top honors in the 5K in 16:55. Laura Frey won the women’s title in 20:29.

The course will be the same as last year and the same as the one used for the Women’s Distance Festival starting and finishing at the Halifax Community Center located at 1015 Halifax Street in downtown Raleigh.

The race is put on by the Athletic Ministry of the newhope church in Durham. The course starts and finishes at the church’s new location at 7619 Fayetteville Road in Durham. Over half of the race is run on the Amertcan Tobacco Trail.

This race, organized and managed by the Oxford Parks and Recreation Department, is to benefit the American Cancer Society. In 2009, a field of over 160 runners/walkers registered for this event. Bernard Genna (19:59) and Jennifer Falls (24:45) were the overall winners. Jarrett Prady holds the course record of 16:57 set in 2006. Jordan McAdams (23:03) holds the women’s course record set in 2008.

In 2009 over 400 runners ignored the threat of rain and came out for this event.

Paul Potori (1:25:10) and Yvonne Ou (1:28:15) were tops in the half-marathon. In the 10K, Paul Himberger (34:10) was the fastest. Kristin Villopoto (42:25) was the women’s champion.

Since this was a new course in 2009, all performances are automatically course records.

The race starts and finishes at 4001 Weston Parkway with most of the courses being on the trails of Umstead State Park.

This race is in memory of Andrew Johnson, who was killed on December 4, 2008, in an automobile accident. He was a dedicated firefighter for the City of Raleigh Fire Department and also volunteered as a Captain for the Archer Lodge Volunteer Fire Department. He was only 25 years old when he was killed but had already made such an impact in the community through his involvement with the fire department. He was very passionate about helping younger firefighters learn the skills they needed to be successful at this difficult career. He was always stressing the importance of training in order to help the firefighter as well as those citizens in the community that need them in difficult situations. He was a certified fire instructor and volunteered his time to help train other firefighters.

Over 600 runners and walkers turned out for this race last year to honor their fallen hero.

Unfortunately the race was unable to get a professional timing company to compile their race results, but that problem has been solved . Young & Associates will be timing this race next year using the ChampionChip.

The race starts and finishes at the Archer Lodge Fire Department located at 6843 Covered Bridge Road in Clayton, The mile starts at 8:30 and the 5K will begin at 9:00 am.
