May 10 (Saturday) Raleigh - St. Timothy's School Spring Sprint - 9:00 a.m. - 5,000 meters, 1 Mile– Contact: Sharon Keen at springsprint@nc.rr.com or (919)787-3011x1313
Now in its third year, this race had over 550 entrants in 2007. Ben Vasquez (17:21) and Wesley Frazier (20:39) were the overall winners. The course records are held by Derek Fenton (16:07). and Kristen Cheman (20:03).
The start/finish area is at St. Timothy’s School in Raleigh. For directions, go to www.mapquest.com and enter 4523 Six Ford Road, Raleigh, NC 27609. Click here to download a course map.
The mile begins at 9 am. The featured 5K starts at 9:30 am. The mile is untimed, but there will be a digital clock at the finish line where runners can see their finishing times. The 5K is timed with the ChampionChip.
In the 5K race, prizes will be awarded to the top three males overall, to the top three females overall, and to the top finisher in each of the following age divisions: (both sexes) 9-under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, and 60-over.
In the one-mile fun run, the top ten finishers will receive prizes and all participants will receive a ribbon.
Race packets can be picked up and late entries can register on Thursday, May 8. from 4-6 pm in the Administration Building at St. Timothy’s from 4:00 pm. to 6:00 pm. and on race day at St. Timothy’s beginning at 7:00 am.
Race proceeds benefit the Pediatric Diabetes Program at WakeMed.

May 10 (Saturday) Kill Devil Hills – Yuengling 2008 Nags Head Woods 5K Run and Village Realty 1 Mile Family Fun Run - 8 a.m. - 5000m, 1 Mile - Contact: Chuck Parker, 87 Duck Woods Road, Southern Shores, NC 27949 (C. Parker -252/261-8241 or e-mail at cparker@gwfh.com.
This is not the race one would choose to run a PR.(In fact one year the race director suggested that you "forget running watches" when you come. The course is sandy and often muddy if there has been a lot of rain. Yet this remains as one of the most popular races in Eastern NC – a place to go to have a “good time” as opposed to running a “good time.”
Last year a record field of over 460 runners/walkers registered for the event. John Mallroy (18:22) won the race. Jennifer Holliday won the women’s title in 20:32. Raymond Ochs holds the course record for the men of 16:12. Megan Holden holds the course record of 18:37
While the footing may be slow on the course, the scenery is magnificent. The 5K course winds through a maritime forest, which makes this race unique among other NC events. And even though the race is professionally run with ChampionChip timing and everything running like clockwork, the atmosphere is low key.

May 11 (Sunday) Durham - Human Rights Torch Relay – 4 pm – 5,000 meters – Contact: Al Whitted at al@walkyourpathwell.net.
Although this may sound like it, this is not a relay race. Instead it is a 5K run/walk held in conjunction with the Olympic Torch Relay moving through North America. The “Human Rights” moniker is to remind everyone during the hoopla surrounding the 2008 Olympic Games that China, where the games will be held, is a well-known violator of human rights. For more information on the global human rights torch relay, click here.
The race will start and finish at the Durham Farmer’s Market and is one of several events being held that afternoon highlighting human rights. For directions to the Farmer's Market, go to www.mapquest.com and enter 534 Foster Street, Durham, NC.
The entry fee for the 5K is $15, $20 beginning May 1. The fees for the mile are $10 and $15, respectively. The first 100 entrants will receive t-shirts.
In the 5K race, awards will be given to the top three male finishers overall, to the top three female finishers overall, and to the top three finishers in each of the following age groups (both sexes): 12-under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60-over.
